Message from the President As the year 2020 draws to a close I reflect
back on a year that, in many ways, has been surreal for me. Not a week
went by without some drama or newsworthy item, either in Australia or
overseas, to catch our attention.
The Trust committee was forced to cancel our AGM in March when Covid 19
restrictions made it impossible to hold a public meeting. We had hoped
to have a delayed AGM midyear, but by September the committee felt that
even a virtual meeting using a computer would have been a struggle. So
we simply decided to wait another six months till March 2021.
We have booked the Beecroft Presbyterian Church Hall in Welham St Beecroft for Monday night 15th March 2021. More details will be provided in the New Year.
I recently met our local State Member and Treasurer Dominic Perrottet to
inspect the construction of the pedestrian lifts at Beecroft Station.
The project is on schedule with the platform lift programmed to be
physically dropped in place by a crane in March next year, coinciding
with major track work.
Regarding the M2 noise issue and the funding for the rehabilitation of
the Cheltenham haulage road, Dominic has promised to chase up these two
outstanding local issues. I am quietly confident that Dominic will
eventually deliver on these issues. In the meantime I will continue to

Finally, it is with much sadness I report that a former Treasurer of the
Trust, Daryl Watson, passed away on Monday this week. My condolences to
his wife Carol and his extended family.
Back in March this year we also lost our auditor and long-time member of
the local community, Ray Barham. My condolences to his wife Joan and
his extended family.

Pennant Hills to Epping – Shared Footpath and Cycleway –
Route B. Have your say. Exhibited Until: 23/12/2020
In 2018, Transport for NSW provided funding to Hornsby Shire Council to
investigate, develop and construct a shared footpath and cycleway
connecting Pennant Hills Station to Epping Station. Council subsequently
engaged traffic and transport consultants to assist with determining
the most suitable route. Council has now prepared a detailed
concept design for the section between Beecroft and Cheltenham Stations
(Route B). Council is now in a position to seek community feedback on

sessions in Beecroft this Thursday at the Scout Hall in The Crescent
from 6pm to 8pm, and this coming Saturday at the Community Centre 10am
to Noon.
Thematic History of Hornsby - Draft Thematic Framework - Community Consultation Resulting
from the community consultation to date, documentation review and
historical research, GML Heritage has prepared a Draft Thematic Framework to
identify the key contributory factors to the development of Hornsby
Shire. This includes the identification of local themes encapsulated
within the state themes that are important to Hornsby.
GML Heritage invites any comments by close of business on Friday, 18 December 2020.

The M2 and traffic noise in Beecroft and Cheltenham The
Trust received emails early this year from local residents complaining
about a noticeable increase in background noise from the traffic on the
M2. The complaints have coincided with the recently completed widening
of the M2. The Trust understands that Roads and Maritime Service (RMS)
did conduct sound monitoring tests in various locations in Beecroft and
Cheltenham after the road works were completed and found the noise
levels to be acceptable.
The Trust has raised the increased noise issue in our past eNews
publications and has also been in communication with our local member
and NSW Treasurer Mr Dominic Perrottet MP. RMS has informed Dominic that
their noise readings indicate that the levels meet the accepted
standards.
Constant and continued high levels of background noise can create
serious health problems for affected residents, not only physical but
also mental. The Trust has requested that Dominic request a
fresh monitoring program as residents believe the noise levels have
increased.
The Trust has received complaints from the following streets in Beecroft
and Cheltenham. Austral Avenue, Boronia Avenue, Castle Howard Rd,
Cheltenham Rd, Finlay Avenue, Kirkham St and Murray Farm Rd.
The properties affected appear to be physically sited above the M2
noise walls, in some instances with a clear line of sight to the moving
traffic. If you live in an adjoining street and are experiencing
uncomfortable noise levels from the M2, please let the Trust know and
we’ll include your street as well.
Clean Up Australia 2021 The
Trust has once again registered the Beecroft Village Green for Clean Up
Australia (CUA). In your diaries put Sunday morning 7th
March 2021, 9am to about midday. As in past years the picnic table
next to the children’s playground will be used as the meeting place and
to drop off the collected rubbish. The usual protocols will apply, such
as children to be accompanied by adults and participants should wear
sensible footwear, gloves and a hat. Collection bags will be provided.
